Work
Anne-Marie Goerges was undergoing nursing training in Alsace when the war broke out. Until the French defeat in June 1940, she helped to care for the sick and the war wounded. Instead of working for the Germans in Trier, Goerges went to unoccupied France and later to Algeria.
After Allied troops had landed in Morocco and Algeria, Anne-Marie Goerges distinguished herself by her commitment to nursing the sick and wounded during the heavy fighting in Tunisia (Nov. 1942 - May 1943). As a result she was officially admitted to the Corps féminin de l’Armée as a military auxiliary on 15 September 1943 and worked as a senior nurse in military hospitals in Algiers and Metz until her discharge in 1945.
