Work
André Flesch was a Luxembourg deserter and resistance fighter. He was called up for the Reich Labour Service at 18 and then drafted into the Wehrmacht. In Luxembourg on leave from the front, he deserted and hid with the help of Belgian civilians.
In Belgium, he joined the local resistance (maquis) and took an active part in its activities until the liberation of Luxembourg. He then joined the Vianden militia and helped defend Luxembourg City. André Flesch was mistakenly arrested by the Americans but later joined the US army as a volunteer and took part in the Battle of the Bulge as a scout, translator, interrogator and driver.

Etwas stimmte hier nicht; wir fühltenes alle. Gegen 05:30 erhielten wir Gewissheit, als die ersten Granaten heranheulten und mit ohrenbetäubendem Krachen hinter Vianden einschlugen. Ein derart starkes Feuer hatte ich bisher noch nicht erlebt; es war unbeschreiblich.
